Modern Sons

I remember, golden fields of grain.  We’d pray for sun on Sunday and if it came we’d pray for rain.

Hundred years of towns folk planted seed within these fields.  And if the prayers on Sunday worked, they’d get a decent yield.

My dad bought his first tractor, back in 1963. A farmer like his father, like he wanted me to be.

Road that Massey Ferguson when I was just a boy and I must admit back then, the thought of farming brought me Joy.

You saw Grandpa’s happiness, when dad and I would help at harvest.  Sunsets, breakdowns dust and all the chores.

Daddy he would say to me that farming life is living free and one day all this land will all be yours.

Chorus:

But if you shed a tear for country folk I ask you pay no mind.  Modern sons leave for the city and put farming things behind.  Pardon to the men who worked this land before my time.  Modern sons leave for the city and put farming things behind.

1997, was my graduation year and after that came college, where I became an engineer.

Years flew by so quickly I think Daddy always thought, education is important but the farm is what I’d want.

Told him unexpectedly, I got a job in Calgary.  They’d like me to start soon as I can.

He realized right then and there his father’s farm would soon be bare.  Later he made plans to rent the land.

Chorus:

But if you shed a tear for country folk I ask you pay no mind.  Modern sons leave for the city and put farming things behind.  Pardon to the men who worked this land before my time.  Modern sons leave for the city and put farming things behind.

Modern sons leave for the city and put farming things behind.  So if you see a farm without a plow, I’d ask you to be kind.  A fathers dream is precious although different then mine, modern sons leave for the city and put farming things behind.  Modern sons leave for the city and put farming things behind.

The Queens Hotel

Embrace the reoccurring scene, where you lay fast asleep at night and dream about the good things in your life.

See the time through distant eye’s, some people laugh some people cry, as they dwell upon the bad things in their lives.

But where do we go from here things aren’t coming in clear.

Whether men run or fight they’re still looking for a new song to write.

Chorus:

Up all night in the queens hotel, throw another coin in the wishing well

Find a friend and shake his hand, travel to a distant land

Make a place where I call home, loving you is all I’ve known

Take my hand you’re not alone tonight, everything will be alright. Everything will be alright.

Sister Beth raised well from a child, can’t you tell her Christian background

got fire, desire, face like the virgin and legs like a woman

But she hides them well you can tell. Extinguishing her flame but I wouldn’t say Gods to blame.

But where do we go from here, what you don’t know you always fear

Whether men run or fight they’re still looking for a new song to write.

Chorus:

Up all night in the queens hotel, throw another coin in the wishing well

Find a friend and shake his hand, travel to a distant land

Make a place where I call home, loving you is all I’ve known

Take my hand you’re not alone tonight, everything will be alright. Everything will be alright.

Beggars outside looking in, paper thin sees his reflection in the glass.

Flash back from the past, the boy inside has his eyes.

Where did I go wrong he cry’s

Where do we go from here I feel the end is drawing near

Whether men run or fight they’re still looking for a new song to write.

Chorus:

Up all night in the queens hotel, throw another coin in the wishing well

Find a friend and shake his hand, travel to a distant land

Make a place where I call home, loving you is all I’ve known

Take my hand you’re not alone tonight, don’t get taken by surprise, it’s your demise, take a deep breath and live your life. Live your life.  Live your life. Live your life.

Buy It All Baby

I new a girl with golden hair thought I’d love her till the end

Until I found out to my despair all she wanted was to be my friend

She found a guy much better than I, had money to spend.

Guess that’s the reason all the women I’m pleasing steal my heart then leave me to mend.

Chorus:

If I had but just one dime I’d give it to a pretty little girl so fine,

If your that women lets waste no time buy it all baby gonna make you mine

I knew a woman her name was Eve, prettiest girl in town

thought that she could be with me til another fella came around

He bought her rings, he bought her pearls, never became my girl

Guess that’s because all the women I love look at me and want no part of

Chorus:

If I had but just one dime I’d give it to a pretty little girl so fine,

If your that women lets waste no time buy it all baby gonna make you mine

Interlude:

I know she’s out there somewhere the girl I’m looking for

She’ll love me for just what I am and not what’s in the store

So I met a girl who’s poor as pie, thought she could be the one.

But she ran around with another guy when all my dollars were done

So if you never have the money, your never going to find yourself a pretty little honey

I’m feeling low all the women I know empty my wallet then they up and go

Chorus:

If I had but just one dime I’d give it to a pretty little girl so fine,

If your that women lets waste no time buy it all baby gonna make you mine yeah. If I had but just one dime I’d give it to

a pretty little girl so fine if your that women I’ll treat you kind, buy it all baby gonna make you mine.

The Cliche

Well I’ve heard a cliché that good people say, don’t judge a book by its cover.

I’ve been here and there I’ve learned people don’t care about themselves or even each other.

But don’t be surprised when you look in their hearts, and see the confusion that keeps them apart

You are wrong we are right so continue your fight while the same cry’s to heaven recite

To judge one another is meant for no other be mindful of what you are saying

If god and his word are so seldom heard than be mindful to whom you are praying

And I find it ironic that a heart that’s so filled would stab at his brother till all the bloods spilled

don’t know what else to say except that same cliché and I hope he sees another way

Interlude:

And the words you must follow are written in stone, sing with your heart pay no mind to the tone

Reach out your hand promise don’t let me go till the day that you take me home, till the day that you take me home

Better Than

She said hey babe you look like hell.  Here’s a kiss, here’s how to do your hair.  I’ll even pick out your clothes to wear.

I can teach you how to sing, show you what a woman will bring.  Even let you buy me, that perfect diamond ring.

Chorus:

Can’t you see I’m not seeking redemption, too late now to be your better man.

Fooled yourself into that mis-intention. Teach you to teach me to be better than.

She says that she’s in love with me. Wants to start a family. But I’m not sure this is, what loves supposed to be.

Don’t want to cause her pain, part of me will miss her ways. But all I do is change, all she does is rearrange.

Chorus:

Can’t you see I’m not seeking redemption, too late now to be your better man.

Fooled yourself into that mis-intention. Teach you to teach me to be better than.

Can’t you see I’m not seeking redemption, too late now to be your better man.

Fooled yourself into that mis-intention. Teach you to teach me to be better than. Teach you to teach me yeah.

The Outlaw

Billy was a troubled child, ever since that day.  His mother got the fever and she slowly died away.

While Bill felt lost and gone his brother Tom was strong, tried his best to help Bill carry on.

Daddy turned to whisky, after mamma passed.  While Tom worked where he could to try to make the money last.

But Bill he took to wondering and roaming town to town and often it was trouble that he found.

He stole his first rooster, when he was very young.  Soon after that came horses which he traded for a gun.

Then one day Bill rode out of town and left his dust behind, but Tom was sore he never said goodbye.

Chorus 1:

Oh Tommy bro I’m feeling low, I gotta hit the road. I’ve never been much for goodbyes, instead I’ll leave this note

If the law men come and ask for me my brother don’t you dwell.  Just tell them bastards they can go to hell.

Tom soon heard the rumors as everybody did.  A bank was robbed in Yuma by a red haired wild kid.

And Tom deep down inside him felt he let his brother down.  So he set out to try and turn Bill around.

After months of searching Tom heard a barman tell.  The law’d caught up with Bill & they had locked him in a cell.

But the sheriff beat Bill bloody so Tom hardly recognized and that’s when all the rage rose in his eyes.

A madness overtook him like he had never known.  Before he knew what happened on his fists the blood had shown.

And he couldn’t say how many times he bashed that sherif’s head.  But when he stopped Tom saw that he was dead.

Chorus 2:

Oh Billy boy don’t act so coy and offer me your thanks, you’ve been sleeping late & drinking straight & robbing all the banks.

Because you are my brother I will spring you from this cell, but after this Bill you can go to hell.

Tom was shocked and terrified by the killing that he’d done.   He’d never harmed a soul before & he knew he had to run.

But the deputy walked in just as Bill slipped out the side, saw Tom standing where the sheriff lied.

The deputy was rattled cause the sheriff was a friend.  So he thrust his pistol right at Tom, said it’s time to meet your end.

And he led Tom to a tree and put a noose around his neck and tied his bloody hands behind his back.

Tom began to weep because he knew his time was near.  He’d finally found his brother now he seemed to disappear.

Then a single gunshot fired and the deputy fell dead then Tom saw Bill and this is what he said.

Chorus 3:

Oh Tommy Bro don’t act so slow upon your horse so high.  This man was going to hang you and for that he had to die.

And because you are my brother I will cut you from this tree but know this now you’re an outlaw just like me.

Grey

When she said I do, never thought I don’t. Told her that he will, but now he won’t.

What do you even say, would it change things either way, do we fight for us for yet another day.

Living love is easy but life gets in the way, is this the case or just another dumb cliché.

Should she find another, lover.  Or does she hold on till all feelings gone.

Chorus:

Winter will hunger for beautiful colour and feast till there’s only grey.

So she must take her chances with foolish romances or alone forever she’ll stay. Alone forever she’ll stay.

Can someone love too much. The heart it feels the warning but the head is full of lust.

Again and again then bust.  Keep trading empty promises for a little loving touch.

Chorus:

Winter will hunger for beautiful colour and feast till there’s only grey.

So she must take her chances with foolish romances or alone forever she’ll stay. Alone forever she’ll stay.

One wants his freedom, two I had to end, three only wants to be friends.

Every year they all get older but no one seems to change and I’m always the one who’s blamed.

Chorus:

Winter will hunger for beautiful colour and feast till there’s only grey.

So she must take her chances with foolish romances or alone forever she’ll stay. Alone forever she’ll stay

Interlude:

And she keeps waiting for that loving man. Wanting someone to hold her hand

Yeah Her dreams they got written in the sand, she keeps waiting for that loving man.  But he never comes.

He never comes.  He never comes.

Chorus 2:

Winter will hunger for beautiful colour and feast till there’s only grey.

So if grey is your colour I will be your lover and together forever we’ll stay. Together forever we’ll stay.

Loss of Innocence

Help me identify this feeling, where life is lost and love is bleeding

When happy thoughts become deceiving. I am hurt… and I need healing.  I need healing

In two we will confide, June 11th put aside

From your hopes and dreams there is no place to hide. I am numb…..and I have cried.  I have cried

Chorus 1:

It’s a man’s role to be strong, to say what’s done is done

But I don’t want to feel content, for the loss of an unborn son

Try again, your young, your healthy, common percent. Only words that won’t prepare you

For a loss of innocence, a loss of innocence.

Eyes are ridden with her tears, expectations are unclear

What was once forgone is now not held so dear. She has doubts….She has fears…She has fears

Chorus 2:

A girl becomes a wife, and will become a mother

But the pain is in her worry, from the loss of an unborn daughter

The magic may be lost, hope can cast a spell again. And put an end to all her worry

And the loss of her innocence….a loss of innocence

K-sera What we will be

The future is unknown to me

Eva’s Song

I don’t know you but you belong to me, when two hearts are one there’s always room for three

Never thought of something missing, till you came into my world, kicking

Now I hold you for the very first time and see how tiny your hand is in mine

Never thought you’d make me better, you bring me so much joy when were together

Chorus:

So I will rock you to sleep and sing this lullaby, offer comfort when you weep now and for the rest of your life

When your eye’s look into mine, do you see that I’m your father.

I’m by your side you are my pride you are all mine, you are my daughter. You are my daughter

I was there for your first breath of life and I am here when your wailing in the night

But that’s when my heart gets in a hurry. Having you is a license to worry.

Chorus:

So I will rock you to sleep and sing this lullaby, offer comfort when you weep now and for the rest of your life

When your eye’s look into mine, do you see that I’m your father.

I’m by your side you are my pride you are all mine, you are my daughter. You are my daughter

Interlude:

But day by day your growing and if people tell me right.  Too soon you’ll be a woman, beautiful and bright

So I’ll ask you for a favor and run my fingers through your curls, will you always be your daddy’s little girl.

Chorus:

So I can rock you to sleep and sing this lullaby, offer comfort when you weep now and for the rest of your life

When your eye’s look into mine, do you see that I’m your father.

I’m by your side you are my pride you are all mine, you are my daughter. You are my daughter
